- Synopsis
- This page shows an image of a cross section through a leaf. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left, when the image is the correct way up. The image is surrounded by a dashed line image border. There is a small key in the bottom left corner of the tactile versions. The central vein is on the right and a small part of the leaf blade is to the left of the page. The vein is full of two sorts of vessel which transport water and material around the plant. The leaf blade is made of four layers. The upper and lower epidermis is at the leaf surfaces. The palisade and spongy layers form the mesophyl tissue in the centre of the leaf.
