- Synopsis
- This image is taken from the river just downstream of the town bridge - see the left-hand side of the overview of the Abingdon Monks' map. The image is very sketchy being made up of grey lines in the pale blue river but it is just possible to make out the shape of the head end of a large fish that looks like a pike about to catch what looks like a crayfish. The pike is shown in side profile on the left facing the crayfish on the right. The crayfish is shown as if looking down on top of it. The fish has long jaws with a large eye set behind them and an idea of the gill openings. The crayfish, similar to a lobster, has a flat, fan-shaped tail, four pairs of legs and two large front claws. The first page is a braille description. the second page is a tactile image bordered by a thick line and is six times larger than the actual images on the map. In order to get an idea of what the fish and crayfish are like, they have both been in-filled with textures, one for the fish and one for the crayfish, instead of leaving them as outlines. Solid texture shows the fish's eye and crayfish's legs and claws.
