- Synopsis
- This page shows an image of a side view of an animal with its head on the left of the page and a tail on the right of the page. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the correct way up. On the left, on the upper surface of the head, it has a hard protective plate. To the right is one of its two rounded eyes. Up from the eye is a small ear. To the left of this, part of its other ear can be found sticking up. To the right of the head is the body. Most of this, the top and side surfaces are also covered with hard protective plate. There is also quite a lot of long coarse hair. Numerous skin joints, shown as heavy dashed lines (tactile) or a darker brown (large print) in the plate mean the animal can bend and move. Down from the plate is the animal's belly covered in short soft fur. Two of its short stout legs are shown each ending in a large sharp claw. To the right of the body is a short tail. The large hairy armadillo is about three metres long. When threatened, if it cannot hide in a burrow, it will draw up its feet, so that the bottom of the shell is level with the ground.
