- Die Legitimität politischer Herrschaft ist seit der Geburt der Philosophie im antiken Griechenland das zentrale Thema des politischen Denkens. Die Transformationsforschung ist dagegen ein Kind der jüngsten Entwicklung der Politikwissenschaft. Während diese sich bisher darauf beschränkt hat, die Transformation von Diktaturen zu Demokratien, von illegitimer zu legitimer Herrschaft innerhalb der Form des modernen Staates zu untersuchen, gehen die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge der Frage nach, wie sich politische Legitimität außerhalb des nationalstaatlichen Rahmens bildet und verändert. Dazu werden Fallbeispiele sowohl aus der Gegenwart als auch aus der Vergangenheit analysiert und abschließend verglichen.
