- Der Maßstab ist der Besucher In den stolzen Abschlussberichten der einzelnen Messegesellschaften ? ndet sich der Besucher bereits im Titel - aber nur wenn er „gesteigert“ werden konnte. Falls nicht, darf er sich einen Platz im Rahmen eines Satzes wie „Qualität der Veranstaltung gehalten“ oder „Messe XY setzt positive Signale für den Markt“ aussuchen. Die Messe als Selbstzweck für Veranstalter, A- steller und Presse? Zum Glück ? ndet hier so la- sam ein Wandel statt. Aber leider noch nicht ganz überzeugend und noch lange nicht überall. Kehren wir für einen Moment zu den Anfängen des Messewesens zurück. Auf Geheiß des jeweiligen Landesfürsten wurde willigen Händlern erlaubt, an gewissen Tagen ihre Waren (damals noch weitgehend ohne Dienstl- stungen) dem nach existenziellen Bedürfnissen und etwas Abwechslung trachtenden Volk feil zu bieten. Für die Besucherwerbung reichte ein Erlass des Fürsten, angebracht an einem prominenten Ort. Dies war zu Zeiten, als die Nachfrage das Angebot bestimmte. In unserer technologisierten Zeit hat sich dieses System radikal verändert. Messen - und mit ihnen die Aussteller - müssen sich in Zukunft noch viel stärker mit den Bedürfnissen der Besucher auseinandersetzen. Er oder sie wird zur Schlüssel-Person jedes künftigen Messe-Erfolgs.
