- Synopsis
- In den USA ist der Einfluß der Wirtschaftslage auf das Wahlverhalten stärker ausgeprägt als in der Bundesrepublik, und dort wiederum stärker als in Schweden. Diese Unterschiede sollen durch den internationalen Vergleich ökonomischen Wahlverhaltens erklärt werden. Dazu wird ein möglichst einfaches und präzises ökonomisches Modell des Wahlverhaltens entwickelt, in dem informationsarme Rationalität eine zentrale Position einnimmt und die Rolle wirtschaftlicher Faktoren besonders detailliert herausgearbeitet ist. Die Kernhypothese lautet: Die Wirtschaftslage hat in Schweden einen geringeren Stellenwert für das Wahlverhalten als in den USA, weil die schwedischen Wählerinnen und Wähler durch höhere Sozialleistungen weniger von Veränderungen der Wirtschaftslage betroffen sind, d. h. das soziale Netz federt Konjunkturschwankungen ab. Die Hypothese wird im empirischen Test anhand von nationalen Wahlstudien bestätigt.
