- Er starb zusammen mit Ludwig II von Bayern im Starnberger See. Bernhard von Gudden (1824 – 1886) war einer der fortschrittlichsten deutschen Psychiater. Frühzeitig engagierte er sich für die Einführung des in der englischen Psychiatrie entwickelten "no-restraint"-Prinzips. Mitbegründer der modernen Neuromorphologie. Sein Forschungskonzept: "retrograde Degeneration". Professor für Psychiatrie in Zürich (1869 – 1872) und München (1872 – 1886).
