- Elisabeth Walther-Bense hat zusammen mit Max Bense in den sechziger Jahren einen neuen Ansatz der Semiotik begründet. Ziel der "Stuttgarter Semiotik" ist es, die theoretische und pragmatische Entwicklung der modernen Semiotik, wie sie der amerikanische Philosoph, Mathematiker und Naturwissenschaftler Charles S. Peirce konzipiert hat, voranzutreiben. Daran beteiligt waren Studierende und Doktorand/innen, deren einige zu dieser Festschrift anlässlich des 80. Geburtstages von Frau Walther-Bense beitragen. Die Forschungen der Gruppe reichen von der mathematischen Logik über die Erkenntnistheorie, Linguistik, Ästhetik, Literaturwissenschaft bis zum Design und zur Kunst.
