- Synopsis
- This is the last volume of the International Yearbook of Political Behavior Research. The reason for terminating the series is a very simple one: since it was conceived in the middle fifties, and since the first volume was published in 1961, the need for the enterprise has steadily decreased. In the fifties, the professional journals of political science were still largely edited by men suspicious of or hostile to the behavioral approaches in the study of politics, and most commercial publishers had not as yet come to appreciate the mer chandizing potential of the new wares. All this has drastically changed in the last few years. The editorial policies of the journals not only welcome but encourage the kind of research that is fertilized by behavioral theories and methods, and the publishers vie with each other in contracting scientific re search monographs. The end of this series, then, symbolizes the success of the new beginning in the study of politics. Hopefully, it contributed to the change in intellectual atmosphere. But the new atmosphere makes its continuance unnecessary. For to publish for the sake of publishing was certainly not one of our objectives.
