- 7. GLOBArt Academy Was ist der Mensch, was bedeutet Mensch sein? Goethe bezeichnete den Menschen als „das erste Gespräch, das Gott mit der Natur hat“. Für Sartre ist der Mensch„im Grunde Begierde, Gott zu sein“.Kant konstatiert, dass der Mensch „das einzige Geschöpf“ ist, „das erzogen werden muss“. Ein jüdisches Sprichwort sagt: „Der Mensch ist, was er ist, aber er ist nicht, was er gewesen ist“. Von Leonardo da Vinci stammt der Satz: „Der Mensch ist das Modell der Welt“. Wie aber sieht unser Menschbild heute, in einer Zeit, die sich in ständiger E- wicklung und Veränderung befindet, aus? Lässt sich das Bild des Menschen aus früheren Epochen so ohne weiteres auf die Gegenwart übertragen? Ist es üb- haupt legitim, die Frage nach einem Menschenbild immer wieder zu stellen, oder ist es nicht ohnedies von vornherein definiert? Neue wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse und technische Möglichkeiten stellen uns vor grundsätzliche Fragen: Wie gehen wir mit der Gattung Mensch um? Wollen wir die Möglichkeiten der Forschung nutzen, um einen Menschen nach unseren Vorst- lungen zu schaffen? Wo bleibt dann die Würde des Menschen? Das allgemeine Bild vom Menschen wird sich im Laufe dieses Jahrhunderts durch die Fortschritte der Wissenschaften tiefgreifender verändern als je zuvor in der Geschichte. Diese Geschwindigkeit, mit der neue Anwendungskontexte entstehen, führt zu vielen Diskussionen und verlangt politische Bildungsprozesse. Ohne Grenzen gibt es kein Maß. Ethische Grundsätze zu formulieren ist eine dringende Notwend- keit; das bedeutet, sich auf Maßstäbe und auf Grenzen zu verständigen.
