- Synopsis
- The pubücation of this second volume of "Quaternary Period in Saudi Arabia" is another fruitful result of international scientific cooperation. It is the outcome of the second phase of continued and expanded field visits, laboratory analysis, map and section drawings, and scientific interpretations. The coopera tive research work has been carried out by the University of Petroleum and Minerals and the Austrian Academy of Science; in addition, the West German University of Karlsruhe has been strongly involved. The expansion is evidenced by the !arger number of participants from the different institutions, including graduate students, morefrequent and Ionger field excursions, and the coverage of new and large areas. In fact, the two volumes now cover most of the Kingdom. As in the first volume, the scientists, administrators, and officials who contributed to this volume are too numerous to be mentioned in this brief foreword. However, the continued supervision and contributions of Professor Dr. ZöTL are specially appreciated. Outstarrding overall efforts and enthusiasm are undeniably credited to Professor Dr. HöTZL. Field arr~ngement and responsi bilities in Saudi Arabia were kindly handled by Dr. ]ADO in addition to his scientific participation and contributions.
