• Bookshare Web Reader - A customized reading tool for Bookshare members offering all the features of DAISY with a single click of the "Read Now" link.
• DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) - A digital book file format. DAISY books from Bookshare are DAISY 3.0 text files that work with just about every type of access technology that reads text. Books that contain images will have the download option of ‘DAISY Text with Images’.
• BRF (Braille Refreshable Format) - Digital Braille for use with refreshable Braille devices and Braille embossers.
• MP3 (MPEG audio layer 3) - Provides audio only with no text. These books are created with a text-to-speech engine and spoken by Kendra, a high quality synthetic voice from Ivona. Any device that supports MP3 playback is compatible.
• DAISY Audio - Similar to the DAISY option above; however, this option uses MP3 files created with our text-to-speech engine that utilizes Ivonas Kendra voice. This format will work with Daisy Audio compatible players such as Victor Reader Stream and Read2Go.
• EPUB - A standard e-book format that can be read on many tools, such as iBooks, Readium or others.
• Word - Accessible Word output, which can be unzipped and opened in any tool that allows .docx files

Der nunmehr vorliegende Band des 25. Hämophilie-Symposiums in Hamburg fand wiederum unter Mitwirkung zahlreicher namhafter Internisten, Dermatologen, Transfusionsmedizinern, Pädiatern und Immunologen statt. Schwerpunktthemen des Symposiums waren die HIV-Infektion, insbesondere die Entwicklung der HIV-Epidemiologie Hämophiler, die pädiatrische Hämostaseologie, die Synovitis, die Thrombophilie: APC-Cofaktor, die Hepatitis C, Hämophilie und Virusinfektion. In zahlreichen freien Redebeiträgen und Posterdiskussionen wurden weiter angrenzende Themengebiete und Kasuistiken diskutiert.

This year we are excited to have visitors from all over North America, South American, Europe and Asia to share exciting developments in all areas of Biomedical Engineering. The main objective of this conference is to bring together students, researchers and clinicians in Biomedical Engineering to disseminate technical information in this rapidly growing field, and provide a forum consisting of established as well as new and future researchers in this exciting engineering field. This year’s meeting features more than 140 high quality papers, many by students, for oral presentations and publication in the conference proceedings. The conference owes its success to the dedicated work of the keynote speakers, conference chairs, authors, participants, students, organizers, and the College of Engineering and Computing webmaster. 26th Southern Biomedical Engineering ConferenceSBEC 2010 April 30 - May 2, 2010 College Park, Maryland, USA (IFMBE Proceedings #32)

The 26th Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference was hosted by the Fischell Department of Bioengineering and the A. James Clark School of Engineering from April 30 – May 2 2010.. The conference program consisted of 168 oral presentations and 21 poster presentations with approximately 250 registered participants of which about half were students. The sessions were designed along topical lines with student papers mixed in randomly with more senior investigators. There was a Student Competition resulting in several Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards. There were 32 technical sessions occurring in 6-7 parallel sessions. This Proceedings is a subset of the papers submitted to the conference. It includes 147 papers organized in topical areas. Many thanks go out to the paper reviewers who significantly improved the clarity of the submitted papers.

27-Gauge Vitrectomy: Minimal Sclerotomies for Maximal Results

This book provides step-by-step instructions on how to operate with 27G instrumentation in a wide range of surgical indications, including vitreous floaters, macular holes, dropped nucleus, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, submacular hemorrhage, retinopathy of prematurity and much trauma. All surgeries are approached in cookbook fashion, with initial coverage of the “ingredients” (devices and instruments) and then meticulous description of preparation and performance with supporting photographs, drawings and videos. In addition, the differences and benefits in comparison with 23G and 25G vitrectomy are highlighted. Small-gauge vitrectomy has radically changed the ways in which vitrectomy is performed. 27G vitrectomy is the most recent and most exciting development in small-gauge vitrectomy. The healing time is faster but the small diameter prolongs the duration of surgery. This obstacle has been overcome with powerful new vitrectomy machines and revolutionary vitreous cutters with two cutting blades making 27G vitrectomy as fast as 25G. This new equipment has expanded the indications for 27G surgeries immensely from detachment surgery to retinopathy of prematurity and the advent of new instruments may make 27G the gold standard in the future. This book, written by authors with huge experience in 27G vitrectomy, will enable surgeons to fully exploit its advantages.
