by Hans-Georg Holfter

A Grief Observed (Faber Paperbacks Ser.)

by C.S. Lewis

A Grief Observed comprises the reflections of the great scholar and Christian on the death of his wife after only a few short years of marriage. Painfully honest in its dissection of his thoughts and feelings, this is a book that details his paralysing grief, bewilderment and sense of loss in simple and moving prose. Invaluable as an insight into the grieving process just as much as it is as an exploration of religious doubt, A Grief Observed will continue to offer its consoling insights to a huge range of readers, as it has for over fifty years. 'A classic of the genre, a literary answer to the pain of loss.' Robert McCrum

John Grote: A Critical Estimate of his Writings

by Lauchlin D. MacDonald

An objective of this book is to discuss some of the contributions made by John Grote to philosophy. This work is an extension of a dissertation written for the doctorate at Boston University. The author wishes to acknowledge the invaluable assistance in many places to Professor Peter A. Bertocci and the late Professor Edgar S. Brightman both of whom read the entire manuscript in its original form. Also, the author acknowledges the encouraging interest and support of his wife, Helen, whose many suggestions have improved the writing and without whose assistance this work would not have been accomplished. The author assumes complete responsibility for whatever errors or deficiencies appear in the book. All known writings of Grote are listed and the more important ones analyzed. LAUCHLIN D. The Meaning of Education

by Stephen David Ross

Moral Development and Moral Education (Routledge Revivals)

by R. S. Peters

First published in 1981, this collection of essays was taken from Peters’ larger work, Psychology and Ethical Development (1974) in order to provide a more focused volume on moral education for students. Peters’ background in both psychology and philosophy makes the work distinctive, which is evident from the first two essays alone: ‘Freud’s theory of Moral Development in Relation to that of Piaget’ and ‘Moral Education and the Psychology of Character’. He also displays balance in his acceptance that reason and feeling are both of great importance where the subject of moral education is concerned. Although written some time ago, the book discusses issues which are still of considerable interest and importance today.

Positive Alternatives to Exclusion

by Paul Cooper, Mary Jane Drummond, Susan Hart, Jane Lovey and Colleen McLaughlin

Positive Alternatives to School Exclusion looks at what schools can do to build more harmonious communities and engage students - particularly those at risk of exclusion - more productively in all areas of school life. It describes the Positive Alternatives to School Exclusion Project, a multi-phase, collaborative initiative based at the School of Education, University of Cambridge.Drawing on the perspectives of staff and pupils, the authors provide detailed case studies of the approaches and strategies being adopted in a variety of settings (primary, secondary and FE) to foster inclusion and reduce and prevent exclusion. It also identifies a number of different frameworks, drawn from the case studies, which can be used by practitioners working in other settings to support their own reflection and development work. Particular importance is placed, throughout the book, on valuing the domain of personal experience in the life of the school community. The authors explore this theme in detail, suggesting ways in which it might become a priority focus of further development work in schools.

A Syntax-Oriented Translator

by Peter Zilahy Ingerman

A Syntax-Oriented Translator focuses on the field of programming and the characteristics and functions of compilers and translators. The book first offers information on the metasyntactic language and the details of a parsing processor. Discussions focus on processing, recovery, and output sections, detailed flow-chart of the parsing processor, parsing form of a grammar, canonical ordering, and the metasyntactic language in general. The text then elaborates on some extensions to the metasyntactic language and metasemantic and metapragmatic language, including punctuation marks and format control, metasemantic and metapragmatic functions, basic form of the construct, and substitution MSF. The publication examines the details of an unparsing processor, as well as lists used in unparsing, subroutines, and the unparsing processor itself. The book is a dependable source of information for home compiler-writers who are interested in the use of a syntax-oriented translator.

Die Freilufterziehung in ihrer Bedeutung für die Volksschule (Forschungsberichte des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen #1583)

by Karl Triebold

Innovation and Research in Education (Routledge Revivals)

by Michael Young

Originally published in 1965, this title looks at programmed learning, language laboratories, curricular reform, educational television, team teaching – these are just some of the fashions that were going to change education in the following decade quite as much as the introduction of comprehensive schools. Would anyone ever know what their effects are? Not unless there was a great expansion of research. The author of this book states the need for a marriage of innovation and research. The social sciences could gain as much as education. Today it can be read in its historical context.

Mathematik als Bildungsgrundlage

by Herbert Meschkowski
