Het opereren van kinderen is niet alleen technisch vaak moeilijker, ook moet peroperatief de diagnose nogal eens worden bijgesteld. Overigens is cardiochirurgie ook bij volwassenen niet eenvoudig. Cardiothoracale chirurgie is een dynamisch vak. De auteurs beschrijven in Thoraxchirurgie de huidige stand van zaken. Janine Wassink-Cornelisse was voorheen werkzaam als operatieassistent, onder andere in het Thoraxcentrum van het Erasmus MC te Rotterdam en in het Harefield Hospital te Londen. Monique van Meer is als operatieassistent/werkbegeleider verbonden aan het Erasmus MC-Daniel den Hoed Oncologisch Centrum te Rotterdam. Voorheen werkte zij in het Thoraxcentrum van het Erasmus MC.
