In der Kommunikation setzen und verhandeln wir Themen für uns selbst und für unser Gegenüber. In der Kommunikation auf Medienplattformen können sowohl journalistische und politische Akteure als auch die Nutzer*innen einzelne Themen spezifisch setzen. Jede*r könnte und jede*r kann Themen mit Hilfe der Techniken problematisieren, aufbereiten und verbreiten – zu jeder Zeit, dabei unterschiedlich relevant. Doch bedeutet allein die Möglichkeit zur Kommunikation auf Plattformen gleichzeitig auch die Möglichkeit zur Thematisierung für eine Öffentlichkeit?Die Arbeit nimmt sich einer bestimmten Schnittstelle von »Kommunikation« und »Medien« an: dem Gegenstand der »Thematisierung« auf Plattformen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Formalobjekt der internetbasierten Thematisierung, welches aus einer techniksoziologischen Perspektive analysiert wird. Es wird untersucht, welche Formen von Thematisierung auf Plattformen technisch möglich sind und wie sie unter Mitanwesenden realisiert werden. Zur theoretischen Auseinandersetzung wird das Konzept der Affordanzen herangezogen. Themen werden affordanzanalytisch nicht nur gesetzt, sondern auch Plattformcharakterisch gestaltet.

Wie kommunizierten Sozialdemokraten ihre Reformprogramme? Wie verknüpften sie rhetorisch die von ihnen eingeleiteten Veränderungen mit ihrem sozialdemokratischen Wertesystem? Auch wenn die Stoßrichtung der sozialdemokratischen Reformdiskurse in allen drei Ländern ähnlich war, sie blieben in ihren nationalen Kontext eingebettet, der bestimmte strategische Diskursführungen ermöglichte oder behinderte. Der Vergleich der nationalen Diskurskontexte und der tatsächlich durchgeführten Reformdiskurse öffnet den Blick für diskursive Spielräume in den jeweils gegebenen Konstellationen und zeigt, dass der Erfolg der jeweiligen Reformdiskurse maßgeblich davon abhing, wie sie mit ihren Diskurskontexten korrespondierten.

This Study Group brought together academics, businessmen, civil servants and serving officers interested in Northern Waters and helped arrange a number of seminars and international conferences. Its members also had contacts with those in Scandinavia and North America who had a professional involvement in Northern Waters. Since the establishment of the Study Group in 1979, interest in Northern Waters has flourished in Britain, the United States, Canada, West Germany and the Nordic countries. In Autumn 1985 the Centre for Defence Studies, University of Aberdeen, held an International Colloquium on what have probably been the main inspirations for the attention devoted to Northern Waters — increased Soviet activity therein and the response of the Western powers. This book reflects some of the issues dealt with at that colloquium and, like the 1986 book, covers jurisdictional and resource questions as well as those concerned with international security.
