Soft-Computing: mit Neuronalen Netzen, Fuzzy-Logic und Evolutionären Algorithmen (eXamen.press)

by Wolfram-Manfred Lippe

Soft Computing: Integrating Evolutionary, Neural, and Fuzzy Systems

by Andrea Tettamanzi Marco Tomassini

Soft computing encompasses various computational methodologies, which, unlike conventional algorithms, are tolerant of imprecision, uncertainty, and partial truth. Soft computing technologies offer adaptability as a characteristic feature and thus permit the tracking of a problem through a changing environment. Besides some recent developments in areas like rough sets and probabilistic networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary algorithms, and artificial neural networks are core ingredients of soft computing, which are all bio-inspired and can easily be combined synergetically. This book presents a well-balanced integration of fuzzy logic, evolutionary computing, and neural information processing. The three constituents are introduced to the reader systematically and brought together in differentiated combinations step by step. The text was developed from courses given by the authors and offers numerous illustrations as

In the existing literature the intersection of agent technology with soft computing is a very recent and attractive issue. The book is devoted to a unifying perspective of this topic. In contains contributions by well-known authors whose expertise is universally recognized in these crossing areas. Particular emphasis is devoted to advanced research projects involved with Web-related technologies.Fundamental topics explored in this volume are: - formal theories and logics to represent and handle imprecise communication acts among communities of agents; - soft-computing approaches to define distributed problem-solving techniques to represent and reason about large-scale control systems; - decomposition of a complex system into autonomous or semiautonomous agents through evolutionary models; - enrichment of agent programming paradigm for cooperative soft-computing processing.

Soft Computing and Fractal Theory for Intelligent Manufacturing (Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing #117)

by Oscar Castillo Patricia Melin

We describe in this book, new methods for intelligent manufacturing using soft computing techniques and fractal theory. Soft Computing (SC) consists of several computing paradigms, including fuzzy logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms, which can be used to produce powerful hybrid intelligent systems. Fractal theory provides us with the mathematical tools to understand the geometrical complexity of natural objects and can be used for identification and modeling purposes. Combining SC techniques with fractal theory, we can take advantage of the "intelligence" provided by the computer methods and also take advantage of the descriptive power of the fractal mathematical tools. Industrial manufacturing systems can be considered as non-linear dynamical systems, and as a consequence can have highly complex dynamic behaviors. For this reason, the need for computational intelligence in these manufacturing systems has now been well recognized. We consider in this book the concept of "intelligent manufacturing" as the application of soft computing techniques and fractal theory for achieving the goals of manufacturing, which are production planning and control, monitoring and diagnosis of faults, and automated quality control. As a prelude, we provide a brief overview of the existing methodologies in Soft Computing. We then describe our own approach in dealing with the problems in achieving intelligent manufacturing. Our particular point of view is that to really achieve intelligent manufacturing in real-world applications we need to use SC techniques and fractal theory.

Soft Computing and Human-Centered Machines (Computer Science Workbench)

by Z. Q. Liu S. Miyamoto

Computer Science Workbench is a monograph series which will provide you with an in-depth working knowledge of current developments in computer technology. Every volume in this series will deal with a topic of importance in computer science and elaborate on how you yourself can build systems related to the main theme. You will be able to develop a variety of systems, including computer software tools, computer graphics, computer animation, database management systems, and computer-aided design and manufacturing systems. Computer Science Work bench represents an important new contribution in the field of practical computer technology. Tosiyasu L. Kunii Preface With the advent of digital computers some five decades ago and the wide spread use of computer networks recently, we have gained enormous power in gathering information and manufacturing. Yet, this increase in comput ing power has not given us freedom in a real sense, we are increasingly enslaved by the very machine we built for gaining freedom and efficiency. Making machines to serve mankind is an essential issue we are facing. Building human-centered systems is an imperative task for scientists and engineers in the new millennium. The topic of human-centered servant modules covers a vast area. In our projects we have focused our efforts on developing theories and techn!ques based on fuzzy theories. Chapters 2 to 12 in this book collectively deal with the theoretical, methodological, and applicational aspects of human centered systems. Each chapter presents the most recent research results by the authors on a particular topic.

Soft Computing and its Applications in Business and Economics (Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing #157)

by Rafik Aziz Aliev Bijan Fazlollahi Rashad Rafik Aliev

"Soft Computing and its Applications in Business and Economics," or SC-BE for short, is a work whose importance is hard to exaggerate. Authored by leading contributors to soft computing and its applications, SC-BE is a sequel to an earlier book by Professors R. A. Aliev and R. R. Aliev, "Soft Computing and Its Applications," World Scientific, 200l. SC-BE is a self-contained exposition of the foundations of soft computing, and presents a vast compendium of its applications to business, finance, decision analysis and economics. One cannot but be greatly impressed by the wide variety of applications - applications ranging from use of fuzzy logic in transportation and health case systems, to use of a neuro-fuzzy approach to modeling of credit risk in trading, and application of soft computing to e-commerce. To view the contents of SC-BE in a clearer perspective, a bit of history is in order. In science, as in other realms of human activity, there is a tendency to be nationalistic - to commit oneself to a particular methodology and relegate to a position of inferiority or irrelevance all alternative methodologies. As we move further into the age of machine intelligence and automated reasoning, we run into more and more problems which do not lend themselves to solution through the use of our favorite methodology.
