Personal Knowledge Management, Leadership Styles, and Organisational Performance: A Case Study of the Healthcare Industry in Thailand (SpringerBriefs in Business #0)

by Vissanu Zumitzavan Jonathan Michie

This book presents unique management perspectives from Thailand’s Healthcare Industry. It focuses on the areas of Personal Knowledge Management, Leadership Styles and Organisational Performance. The book highlights the various business challenges that organisations face in the context of globalisation, which itself has produced new opportunities and difficulties alike. In addition, it also elaborates on how even large organisations with strong histories can no longer compete unless they are willing to adapt to changing conditions. Demonstrating how transferring and encouraging knowledge within an organisation can generate approaches that promote its continuing success, the book mainly focuses on the perspective of the Resource Based View, a broadly recognised method for maintaining the competitive advantages of an organisation. It also stresses the importance of making the most use of organisational resources. The book offers a valuable reference work, not only for practitioners and academic researchers in the fields of Business & Management but also for students taking Leadership Management, Organisational Learning and Organisational Performance Appraisal courses, serving as a sourcebook for the principles of successful management.

Personal Narratives of Teacher Knowledge: Crossing Cultures, Crossing Identities (Intercultural Reciprocal Learning in Chinese and Western Education)

by Betty C. Eng

This book illustrates how the experiential histories of teachers shape and inform the knowledge of teachers as professionals. Situating personal experiences into the context of social, political, and economic events gives clarity to the intercultural dynamics of being Chinese and Western. What can we learn from each other to transform our teaching and learning? The book engages in a cross-cultural perspective that is highly relevant for teachers, teacher education, curriculum making and policy planning for a global community. The book is also an invitation to internationalize the classroom for teaching and learning in a diverse and global world, and to educators and policy makers to expand our understanding of cross-cultural complexities for an increasingly diversified and global community. By viewing the classroom through the multiple lens of different cultures, educators have an opportunity to cross over to see, experience, and understand how others live.

Personal Narratives, Peripheral Theatres: Essays on the Great War (Second Language Learning and Teaching)

by Anthony Barker Maria Eugénia Pereira Maria Teresa Cortez Paulo Alexandre Pereira Otília Martins

This book is a collection of essays on neglected aspects of the Great War. It begins by asking what exactly was so "Great" about it, before turning to individual studies of various aspects of the war. These fall broadly into two categories. Firstly personal, micro-narratives that deal directly with the experience of war, often derived from contemporary interest in diaries and oral histories. Presenting both a close-up view of the viscerality, and the tedium and powerlessness of personal situations, these same narratives also address the effects of the war on hitherto under-regarded groups such as children and animals. Secondly, the authors look at the impact of the course of the war on theatres, often left out in reflections on the main European combatants and therefore not part of the regular iconography of the trenches in places such as Denmark, Canada, India, the Levant, Greece and East Africa.

by Alfred-Joachim Hermanni

The Personal World of the Language Learner

by Cristina Ros i Solé

This book presents a radical turn in Second Language Acquisition research by introducing a conceptual paradigm that challenges rationalist, instrumental and empiricist approaches to language learning theory. It argues for a shift in focus from measuring the effectiveness of language learning processes to humanising the language learning experience. This new paradigm explores the force of affect, the imagination and creativity and their roles in assembling language learners' intimate worlds. 'The personal' is reclaimed and acts as driving force for language learning and the sphere in which learners engage both their minds and bodies in a constant socialization of feelings and emotions. The author provides examples from real language learners using a variety of modern languages to provide insights on the kind of personal worlds that languages compel us to inhabit. This book will be of interest to those working with language learning and language education theory, language teachers, and researchers and students who are interested in issues of identity and intercultural communication in language learning.

Personale Kompetenzen in der Frühpädagogik: Video-Interaktions-Analysen zur Qualifizierung der Krippenbetreuung

by Michaela S. Müller
