The book integrates the detailed study of behind-the-scenes diplomatic practice into the larger narrative of traditional diplomatic history, connecting social practices with political outcomes. Exploring how women's tea drinking was used to achieve post-war foreign policy and how Rosa, a Guatemalan cook, contributed to the international standing of the Netherlands, it offers a more inclusive history by recognising the diplomatic work done by actors who were not diplomats. In doing so it demonstrates the ways in which diplomacy was class-bound, gendered and racialized, and proves that historicizing gender and cultural norms is crucial to understanding political and international history.

Part I deals with the respective roles and responsibilities of employers and employees and offers guidance on developing a workplace personal safety policy. Workplace design and management are addressed and guidelines provided for health care workers when away from their normal work base. Part 2 gives detailed guidelines for use by individual workers in a variety of work situations. Part 3 considers training issues and contains a number of sample training programmes with handouts. The message of this book is that prevention is better than cure - proper attention to risk can reduce both the incidence of aggression and its development into violent acts. The aim is to achieve the dual effect of protecting health care workers, and also of providing services in a more sensitive way. Good practice implies a responsibility to ensure that health care can be delivered in conditions of safety for staff and patients alike.

by Norman DürkopDas „Kooperative Führungssystem“ (KFS) gilt seit 40 Jahren als die offizielle Führungskonzeption der bundesdeutschen Polizei, wurde aber trotz dieser Bedeutung von der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung bisher nur am Rande zur Kenntnis genommen. Die Arbeit macht den Versuch, das KFS als Bestandteil eines längerfristigen Führungswandels in der Polizei während der 1960er und 1970er Jahre zu beschreiben und seine heutige Funktion für die Polizei zu bestimmen. Trotz der Verankerung in diversen bundesweit gültigen Vorschriften zeigt sich, dass das KFS heutzutage meist auf den Wert des kooperativen Führens reduziert wird. Die Relevanz des KFS für die Polizei ist somit weniger in der Formalstruktur als vielmehr in der Schauseite zu sehen: Mit dem KFS kann die Polizei ihre Orientierung an den Bürgerrechten für das Publikum wirkungsvoll inszenieren.

Dazu werden Umfragedaten zu 91 Landtagswahlen seit 1962 herangezogen. Der Autor prüft, ob sich der Einfluss der Bewertung der Spitzenkandidaten von Union und SPD auf die Wahlentscheidung in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten verstärkt hat. Neben dem Einfluss des zeitlichen Kontexts, der für verschiedene Prozesse des Wandels steht, werden spezifische Kontextbedingungen der Wahlen und (quasi-)institutionelle Bedingungen der Länder berücksichtigt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen eine gegenläufige Entwicklung für die Personalisierung der Wahlentscheidung bei Union und SPD: Während es bei der Union eine Personalisierungstendenz gibt, sinkt bei der SPD-Wahl der Einfluss der Spitzenkandidaten auf die Wahlentscheidung.
