Team Sports Marketing
by Kirk WakelandSome might argue that sports marketing is a mere subfield of marketing, meaning that there are theoretical and practical dimensions that apply only to sports marketing and are only of interest to those involved in sports. In Team Sports Marketing, author Kirk Wakefield dispels this argument by demonstrating that effective sports marketing epitomizes the science and art of marketing across any context. At the core of sports marketing is the creation and enhancement of fan identification, where consumers are not just loyal customers, but have become brand fanatics.Team Sports Marketing shows that while many aspects of sports marketing are thought to be unique to the field, other product and service sectors would do well to learn from teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL that have transformed customers into fans. Moving beyond principles of marketing, Team Sports Marketing is packed with examples of best practices and covering subjects as diverse as sponsorships, season ticket sales, venue management and all topics in between. Team Sports Marketing is a must read text for students and managers in professional and collegiate sports. Support materials for professors and students are available at www.teamsportsmarketing.com.
Team Sports Training: The Complexity Model (Routledge Research in Sports Coaching #10)
by Javier MalloTeam Sports Training: The Complexity Model presents a novel approach to team sports training, examining football (soccer), rugby, field hockey, basketball, handball and futsal through the paradigm of complexity. Under a traditional prism, these sports have been analyzed using a deterministic perspective, where the constituent dimensions of the sportsmen were independently examined and treated in isolation. It was expected that the body worked as a perfect machine and, once all the components were maximized, the sportsmen improved their performance. If the same closed recipe was applied to all the players that formed part of the squad, the global team performance was expected to be enhanced. As much as these reductionistic models seem coherent, when contrasted in practice we see that the reality of team sports is far more different from the closed conditions in which they were idealized. Team sports contain variable, heterogeneous and non-linear constrains which require the development of a different logic to organize their training.During the last years, ecological psychology, the dynamical systems theory or the constraints-led approach have opened interesting fields of research from which many conceptual foundations can be applied to team sports. Based in this contemporary framework, the current book presents the study of the players and the teams as complex systems, using coordination dynamics to explain the emergence of the self-organisation episodes that characterize them. In addition, this thinking line provides the reader with the ability to apply all these innovative concepts to their practical training scenarios. Altogether, it is intended to challenge the reader to re-think their training strategy and to develop an original theory and practice of training specific to team sports.

Team Talk: Sporting Words and their Origins (Shire General Ser. #2)
by Julian WalkerHave you ever wondered why we talk about a handicap in sport, why boxing is so named, or whether a dumbbell ever rang? It was during the nineteenth century that hitherto local games with relaxed and varying rules were formalized. During this process terminologies developed to refer to these new standardized sports, borrowing, modifying and redefining words from all walks of life in sometimes strange and unexpected ways. Considering such subjects as why sport shares so many words with the fields of hunting and conflict, and how English sports terms have been both adopted from and given to other languages, this book looks at how words have come into the field of sport and how they have developed and changed.

Bobby Doerr, the fourth member of this close group--"my guys," Williams used to call them--is unable to join them. This is a book--filled with historical details and first-hand accounts--about baseball and about something more: the richness of friendship.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training: An investment-based approach
by Stephen GoughVocational education is central to the plans of policy makers around the world; it underpins the development of the poorest economies, and the continued competitiveness of the richest. Technical and Vocational Education and Training debates the key issues:* How far can the same principles be applied to vocational learning in universities, colleges, schools and the workplace?* Do the needs of learners and the needs of the economy always coincide? Should teachers focus on the delivery of skills or the development of cultures?* What will determine whether what is learnt corresponds to what is taught?* Who are the stakeholders in vocational learning, and can they all be satisfied at once?* What does it really mean to say that vocational provision is a kind of investment?Drawing on contemporary, internationally-significant case studies in water education, management education and education for sustainable development along with UNESCO's International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Gough provides a challenging discussion.

Telemedicine in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine: Development and Implementation in Practice
by Alfred Atanda John F. LovejoyAs the healthcare landscape evolves towards value-based treatment models, healthcare providers will be forced to find ways to deliver healthcare in a cost-effective, resource mindful way that provides good care, all the while maintaining appropriate patient satisfaction. Telemedicine offers a way to achieve this goal, in both rural and urban settings and with a varied and diverse patient population - not to mention during global health emergencies, where in-person visits and consultations are not ideal. This book will serve as an introduction to telemedicine and digital health for the orthopedic and sports medicine provider. It will provide a general overview of telemedicine as well as specific suggestions and recommendations: where and how to get started, how to implement a telemedicine program, how to do research in telemedicine, and how to develop clinical guidelines and best practices for work in telemedicine. Specific chapters cover important nuts-and-bolts topics like regulation and licensing, billing and coding, and ethics and etiquette. Suggestions and considerations for provider-to-provider, direct-to-consumer, and school-based telemedicine service are likewise presented. Finally, insights into global telemedicine implementation and research are detailed. While describing specific applications to orthopedic and sports medicine practices, Telemedicine in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine will cater to any clinician – from the individual solo practitioner to the C-suite level executive – who has a vision for implementation of telemedicine across an entire health system.
