Story Chest: Samson the Grey Seal (PDF)

by Charles Jackson Joy Cowley June Melser

When he was born he was not grey at all, but white. He was a funny dark-eyed soft thing lying about on a rocky shore, which looked as if it would bruise him all over. He was born in a cold time of the year - November, on a small island belonging to the group called the Fame Islands, which lie in the chilly North Sea, off the Northumberland coast of England.

Story Chest: Cave Boy

by Charles Jackson

For once, Juk the Swift One was still. Sitting astride a tall rock set on a high place in the hills, he was looking away to the Cold Lands, where the distant blue haze of mountains marked the limit for even his keen eyes. Near him lay Tuthi, the wild dog he had tamed. Nose on paws, eyes slitted, Tuthi seemed to be asleep, although it needed but one movement from Juk and he would be alert and leaping. "Story Chest" is a scheme of high interest readers for KS1/2. This well-known series has self-contained, funny and predictable stories. Good for using with beginner readers and reluctant/SEN readers because of the style and predictable text.

Target Maths Year 5 (Target Maths)

by Stephen Pearce

Target your Maths Year 5

by Stephen Pearce

The new Target Your Maths series has been written to fully support the renewed 2014 National Curriculum Framework. The structure as set out in Appendices II and III of the Answer Book enables teachers to develop concepts progressively throughout the year and provides pupils with frequent opportunities to consolidate previous learning. Each single or double page lesson in this book is divided into four sections: Introduction: the learning intention expressed as a target and, where necessary, clearly worked examples. Section A: activities based upon work previously covered. This generally matches the requirements for Year 4 pupils. This section can be used to remind children of work previously covered, as well as providing material for the less confident child. Section B: activities based upon the requirements for Year 5 pupils. Most children should be able to work successfully at this level. Section C: activities providing extension material for the faster workers and for those who need to be moved quickly onto more challenging tasks. The work in this section generally matches the requirements for Year 6 pupils. Problems in Section C can also provide useful material for discussion in the plenary session.
