Le cancer colo-rectal est, en termes d’incidence, le cancer digestif le plus fréquent. Plus de 70 % d’entre eux sont localisés sur l’anse sigmoïde du côlon gauche. La colectomie segmentaire sigmoïdienne pour cancer est donc l’un des actes de chirurgie digestive le plus souvent réalisé. L’intérêt de l’abord laparoscopique dans ces circonstances a été reconnu depuis plusieurs années, en termes de réduction des complications pariétales, des douleurs post opératoires, de la rapidité de récupération d’un retour à un état physique normal, d’ordre esthétique même si cela est secondaire, et surtout de qualité de vie, par plusieurs études contrôlées convergentes.

French aeronautics shone brightly in the first decade of the twentieth Century, but declined after the Great War. To remedy this situation, a new Ministry of Air launched in 1929 a large national program of scientific research in fluid mechanics, including the creation of four institutes and five teaching centers in the faculties of sciences in Paris and the provinces. This visionary policy, supported by considerable means, started a quite creative period and led to important achievements notably in the fields of atmospheric turbulence, thermoconvection and wake vortices. The usual picture of a period exclusively dominated by German and British contributions (and growing North-American ones), comes out significantly revised. The fruits of this policy will allow France to play a major role in the creation, after World War II, of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and are still visible today in the French teaching and research organization. Since the first ICM was held in Zürich in 1897, it has become the pinnacle of mathematical gatherings. It aims at giving an overview of the current state of different branches of mathematics and its applications as well as an insight into the treatment of special problems of exceptional importance. The proceedings of the ICMs have provided a rich chronology of mathematical development in all its branches and a unique documentation of contemporary research. Differential Geometry and Complex Analysis: A Volume Dedicated to the Memory of Harry Ernest Rauch

This volume is dedicated to the memory of Harry Ernest Rauch, who died suddenly on June 18, 1979. In organizing the volume we solicited: (i) articles summarizing Rauch's own work in differential geometry, complex analysis and theta functions (ii) articles which would give the reader an idea of the depth and breadth of Rauch's researches, interests, and influence, in the fields he investigated, and (iii) articles of high scientific quality which would be of general interest. In each of the areas to which Rauch made significant contribution - pinching theorems, teichmiiller theory, and theta functions as they apply to Riemann surfaces - there has been substantial progress. Our hope is that the volume conveys the originality of Rauch's own work, the continuing vitality of the fields he influenced, and the enduring respect for, and tribute to, him and his accom­ plishments in the mathematical community. Issu d’un cours de maîtrise de l’Université Paris VII, ce texte est réédité tel qu’il était paru en 1978. A propos du théorème de Bézout sont introduits divers outils nécessaires au développement de la notion de multiplicité d’intersection de deux courbes algébriques dans le plan projectif complexe. Partant des notions élémentaires sur les sous-ensembles algébriques affines et projectifs, on définit les multiplicités d’intersection et interprète leur somme entermes du résultant de deux polynômes. L’étude locale est prétexte à l’introduction des anneaux de série formelles ou convergentes ; elle culmine dans le théorème de Puiseux dont la convergence est ramenée par des éclatements à celle du théorème des fonctions implicites. Diverses figures éclairent le texte: on y "voit" en particulier que l’équation homogène x3+y3+z3 = 0 définit un tore dans le plan projectif complexe.

Classification des Groupes Algébriques Semi-simples: The Classification of Semi-simple Algebraic Groups (Collected Works of Claude Chevalley #3)

The third volume of the Collected Works of Claude Chevalley assembles his work on semi-simple algebraic groups contained, for the most part, in the notes of the famous "Séminaire Chevalley" held at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris between 1956 and 1958 and written up by participants of the seminar namely, P. Cartier, A. Grothendieck, R. Lazard and J. L. Verdier. These texts have been entirely reset in TeX for this edition, and edited and annotated by Pierre Cartier. Almost 50 years after the original writing, these texts still constitute a choice reference from which to enter and learn this part of the theory of algebraic groups.
