An Introduction to Group Work Skill (Routledge Revivals)
by Fred MilsonFirst Published in 1973, An Introduction to Group Work Skill is designed to make the understanding of group work skills accessible to all- mothers, teachers, employers, as well as professional social workers. Dr Milson argues that this lengthy and imaginative excursion has been thought necessary as we are here concerned with the behaviour of people in groups which meet fairly regularly, which are small enough to provide opportunities for every member to know every other member as a person, and where there is a goal to be achieved which calls for a contribution from each. The author further argues that group work skill is composed of observation, interpretation, and action, and he proceeds to analyze each of these elements in successive chapters. This is an interesting read for students of sociology of work and social work.

Retiring: Creating a Life That Works for You
by Teresa M. Amabile Lotte Bailyn Marcy Crary Douglas T. Hall Kathy E. KramRetirement, as a major life transition, can be both thrilling and challenging in unexpected ways. Written by acclaimed authors in the fields of business leadership, careers, and work, this book goes beyond the typical financial and health-related advice on retirement, providing insights to guide you in broader areas of your life – identity issues, relationship challenges, and questions about creating a new retirement life structure that works for you. With lively, engaging writing, the book tells the detailed retirement transition stories of 14 people – and draws on over 200 interviews with 120 people – to explore how retiring involves a reconstruction of both the person and their life structure. You’ll gain wisdom on the common themes and the wildly different approaches people take to the four big tasks of retiring: making the retirement decision, detaching from work both tangibly and psychologically, building a new life structure for retirement, and settling into a relatively stable retirement life – but prepared to restructure again as life unfolds into the future. Throughout each chapter, you’ll see how the dynamic interplay of self, life structure, and external context affect a retiring person’s day-to-day experience in the final months of their career, as well as their early years of retirement – and how life satisfaction depends largely on alignment among the three. At the same time, you’ll learn how family, friends, and colleagues, as well as the organization the person is retiring from, can play a crucial role. This book is for you if you are seeking deep, nuanced insight into – and practical advice on – the psychological, social, and life-restructuring aspects of retirement that can make all the difference for life satisfaction. It is also for you if you are a family member or friend of a retiring person, a helping professional, or an organizational leader who cares about your older workers and the value they bring to your organization even as they depart.

Rethinking Stormwater Management through Sustainable Urban Design (Urban Sustainability)
by Ali Cheshmehzangi Maycon Sedrez Andrew FlynnThis book provides a different narrative and approach to rethinking stormwater management through sustainable urban design. It delves into design interventions and innovative strategies that lead to solving context-specific issues of flooding, water scarcity, etc. Starting with an overarching introduction and discussion on stormwater management research, the book then primarily focuses on sustainable urban design practices, strategies, and policy guidelines. By summarising a selection of successful global case study examples, the book highlights how we should rethink stormwater management practices and policies from the design perspective. Through sustainable urban design suggestions, the book covers a wide range of conceptual examples to design and policy guidelines, as well as best practices that could be utilised for other contexts. The book is divided into two sections of: (1) architectural and urban design practices and interventions; and (2) policies and action plans. This collection helps researchers and scholars rethink stormwater management and consider innovative - and, more importantly, sustainable - design strategies that could help develop new paradigms and policies for water-related issues in cities and communities. This will interest multiple stakeholders, mainly urban policymakers, planners, urban designers, urban specialists, landscape architects, architects, and urban ecologists. It could be treated as a case study-based guide for governmental units dealing with water related issues in cities and urban areas.

Queer Kinship and Comparative Literature: New Approaches (Palgrave Studies in Mediating Kinship, Representation, and Difference)
by Anchit Sathi Alice FerrebeThis edited collection provides a critical forum for scholars to examine the evolution of queer kinship—encompassing the wide range of relationships, both biological and nonbiological, that queer individuals choose (or are compelled) to establish—through its representation in literature over time and across cultural contexts. In particular, the ten essays in this collection utilize close readings, philosophy, and theory to address the following question: How can we conceptualize the nature of queer kinship based on its textual representations? To this end, the essays engage with a diverse array of texts, from Buddhist writing to contemporary song lyrics, French literature from the 17th and 18th centuries to contemporary drama and novels from Sweden, Israel, and the Anglosphere. This broad temporal and geographic scope yields new critical insights into the varied ontologies of queer kinship and highlights the inherent paradoxes and fundamental messiness in queer kinship formations across different times, spaces, and contexts. In doing so, the collection makes a significant and timely contribution to the fields of kinship studies, queer studies, and comparative literature.

Thinking: An Experimental and Social Study (Routledge Revivals)
by Frederic BartlettFirst Published in 1958, Thinking Introduces a number of simple experiments which can all be repeated by anybody who is interested. They show that the thinker is all the time trying to fill up gaps in information that is available to him in such a manner that there is a good prospect that all other thinkers, given the same incomplete information, will agree with him. How, and what are the conditions, under which he does this, are considered and illustrated a) for formal thinking; b) for the thinking of the experimental scientist; c) for everyday thinking, and d) for the thinking of the artist.A great many of the processes used in thinking have been developed at a level of bodily skill, and long before thinking proper becomes possible at all. At the same time, it becomes clear, as the investigation proceeds, that thinking processes have important characteristics and rules peculiar to themselves. These also vary according to the fields of information in which the thinker operates. There is no doubt that Sir Frederick’s experimental study is a work of first importance and will be useful for scholars and researchers of psychology.

The Panchatantra: Translated from the Sanskrit (Routledge Revivals)
by Franklin EdgertonFirst Published in 1965, The Panchatantra is a reprint of Franklin Edgerton’s translation, first published in volume two of Panchatantra Reconstructed (1924), with some minor alterations. Probably no other work of Hindu literature has played so important a part in the literature of the world as the Sanskrit story collection called the Panchatantra. The title means ‘the five books’, and most of the older versions and translations keep this division, although the last two books are much shorter than the first three. All the ‘books’ contain at least one story, and usually more, which are ‘emboxed’ in the main story, called the ‘frame-story’. The original Sanskrit text is composed in a mixture of prose and stanzas of verse. The stories proper are told almost wholly in prose. This translation work is an important book for scholars and students of South Asian literature and Sanskrit studies.
